First generation 1960′s toy that was supposed to be better than paper and felt-tips but unlike them couldn’t produce a curve, circle, dotted line or more than one colour ink.
One didn’t even get a penlike object with which to draw. Just two knobs, one to control the vertical line’s trajectory and the other, its horizontal flightpath. With mine, the whole Etch-A-Sketch eventually took to the air.
You could have any colour of Etch-A-Sketch as long as it was red and any colour ink as long as it was black. You could draw anything with it as long as it was a square or rectangle.
As far as I can see the only thing going for it was its ability to wipe itself clean at a moment’s notice - even when you didn’t want it to.
So… that makes it a forerunner to today’s Windows 7 Laptop.
