Lonesome George

The end of an era as ‘Lonesome George’ the 100 year old Chelonoidis nigra abingdoni Galapagos Island-based tortoise passes away.

The poor old blighter was deemed the last of his species when it was discovered that his late wife ( the last female of that species) shed barren eggs.

From that moment the writing was on the wall for poor old George’s entire family tree!

Who was to blame for the entire extinction of this species?

Who do you ruddy think! Humans of course!

Just think how better off and how much nicer the Earth would look by now had humans not have evolved from the apes and took this place over.

When we did, it’s a wonder we didn’t hear the whole animal and marine kingdoms shout in unison, ‘Well, there goes the neighbourhood!’
